Luras, a town in the Gallura area with a populatìon of about 2.800 people, is situated in the north-eastern part of Sardinia and rests upon a granitìc hill on the Limbara plateau, at 508 m. above sea level.
It is considered an island within an island, and is an enclave of the Logudorian language in the heart of Gallura.
Its historical centre is characteristic and well preserved and in typical Gallurian style. One of the biggest concentrations of dolmen can be found in the area, which are megalithic funeral monuments from the neolithic period.
In the Valle del Carana on the shores of the Liscia Lake, there are wild olive trees that are tbousands of years old. According to some studies, the oldest of these is about 4.000 years old, which makes it the oldest tree in Europe.
